A drug addict died after being electrocuted while cutting cables at a power plant that generates electricity from garbage

The drug addict, who was receiving treatment at Ragama Hospital in critical condition, after being electrocuted after cutting the underground cables of a power plant in Muthurajawela, which recycles garbage and produces electricity from garbage, has died.

The Wattala Police say that the victim is Sampath Vidushana De Soysa, who was a resident of Awarakotuwa, Hadala, Wattala.

The police say that this person died after hitting an electrical transmission of the 10-megawatt belonging to the Colombo-West Energy Power Plant company established at the Muthurajawela waste yard.

Police say that on the 10th, three persons including this person entered the company’s premises secretly and first cut an 8 feet section of an underground earth wire connected to the transformer. It is said that when the deceased person went near the transformer to cut another part of the earth wire and climbed on a wall, he was thrown and fell on the ground with an explosion. At the same time, the other two people who were with him fled and when the electrical engineers came to investigate the explosion, they saw him lying down on ground after being electrocuted. There, the relevant power plant workers gave him first aid and immediately took steps to admit him to Ragama Hospital. The police say that he died yesterday after being treated in the hospital for several days.

The Wattala Police stated that investigations are underway to find the two others who cut the cables with him.
