More than 75 soldiers of the army are engaged in a massive search and rescue operation this evening to rescue four people who were trapped in a house due to the collapse of a soil mound near the Koswatta junction on the Aguruwella Warakapola road.

The father of the family who was in the debris of the house was rescued from the landslide and sent to the Warakapola Hospital for treatment.

Efforts are on to rescue the others.

More than 75 army personnel including officers are engaged in clearing the soil in search of other survivors, but torrential rains and flowing water have posed a major challenge to ongoing operations.

As per the instructions of the Army Commander, 8 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops of 611 Brigade under 61 Division of Security Force Headquarters West (SFHQ-West) are engaged in this operation.
