The Minister of State for Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has said that it has been decided to strictly implement the law against people who come to Sri Lanka from abroad wearing gold items in excess of the size for the purpose of smuggling.
The minister also states that the country loses an income of about 30 million US dollars per month when smugglers come with gold items in their bodies.
The State Minister says that since the persons involved in this smuggling have been identified, steps will be taken to trap the smugglers who come to this country in the future. The minister also emphasizes that this will ensure that ordinary air passengers will never suffer.
