It has been decided to appoint two sub-committees in the inaugural meeting of the National Assembly which met today.
It is to guide the formulation of short, medium and long term national policies.
The sub-committees are appointed to set the general priorities of the Parliament as well as reach consensus on short and medium term common minimum programs related to economic stabilization.
The first meeting of the ‘National Assembly’ held today (29) at the Parliament complex was chaired by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Leader of the House Minister Susil Premajayantha, Chief Organizer of the ruling party Minister Prasanna Ranatunga as well as Chief Organizer of the Opposition Lakshman Kiriella, Asanka Navaratne, Rauf Hakeem, Rishad Badiuddin, Mano Ganesan, Palani Digambaram, Jeevan Thondaman, Sisira Jayakodi, Namal Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Sagara Kariyawasam, Ali Sabri Rahim, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Wajira Abeywardena, Minister Tiran Alas, Sivaneshthurai Chandrakanthan, Champika Ranawaka and many members of Parliament were present at the meeting.
Parliamentary Secretary General Dhammika Dasanayake also joined this.
After the first meeting of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that both the ruling party and the opposition had attended the meeting of the National Assembly.
He said that this auspicious message is a new door that has been opened nationally, for the advancement of the parliamentary program, and for further strengthening the trust between the people and the parliament.
It has been decided in the 2022.09.29 meeting that the National Assembly will meet on Thursday of every parliamentary week.
