It is reported that many chemical tests have been stopped due to the lack of facilities at the Colombo National Hospital.
Therefore, it is also reported that patients often have to pay money and get the tests done at nearby laboratories.
National hospital sources also state that it is not possible to carry out many essential laboratory tests because there are no reagents required for that.
In a query about this, Mr. Ravi Kumudesh, President of the Medical Laboratory Scientist Professionals Association, stated that the reason for the lack of reagents is the lack of money and some experts maintaining a monopoly on purchasing reagents from a company of their choice.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ravi Kumudesh said that the top officials of the National Hospital are in direct contact with some private laboratories and they are benefiting from it.
