The Ministry of Local Medicine has launched a program to provide a glass of nutritious porridge to children in 1000 selected schools across the country.
Minister of Local Medicine Mr. Sisira Jayakodi said that the program will be started from Kelani Maha Vidyalaya in the Western Province on the 3rd Monday of October.
The minister said that for the porridge, which is prepared according to an approved recipe of the Ayurveda department, rice varieties such as red raw, heenati, Patcha Perumal and Suwandal, and medicinal substances such as coconut, dry ginger, pepper, thippili, Suduru, Kalu duru and Dew duru are also used.
Mr. Sisira Jayakodi also said that this program will be implemented in 1000 schools as a pilot project and then implemented all over the island.
