The first house has been sold today under the government program of selling houses belonging to the Urban Development Authority for dollars.
Accordingly, a Sri Lankan working in Dubai has bought this house from the Viathpura housing complex of the Urban Development Authority this morning (27).
The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing says that he sent $40,000 for that.
Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga, the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, recently took steps to facilitate the purchase of middle-income houses built by the Urban Development Authority for Sri Lankans abroad and workers with dollars.
It was also decided to give a 10% discount to those who buy these houses in dollars.
Thus, the value of the house with 02 bedrooms in the Viathpura housing complex sold today is Rs.15.8 million.
He bought the house for Rs. 14.2 million on the basis of giving a 10% discount when buying in dollars.
The Urban Development Authority says that many Sri Lankans and workers abroad have applied to buy these houses.
The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing expects to achieve a target of $275,000 by December this year.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga stated that as a solution to the dollar crisis in the country, middle-income houses built under the Urban Development Authority were facilitated for Sri Lankans and workers abroad to buy with dollars.
Two such housing projects have been completed by the Urban Development Authority.
Borella Ovalview project consists of 608 housing units and Angoda Lake rest project consists of 500 housing units.
