Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne says that the Sri Lanka Police Department has been able to provide the necessary services to the public based on the experience gained in the face of various problematic situations.
He said that the police department had been on a path that was not beautiful for decades by facing various social conflicts, people’s struggles, armed struggles and crimes, terrorism, etc.
He also emphasized that the police were able to protect law and order by bravely facing the various situations they had to face.
The Inspector General of Police, who said that despite the criticism, his department has taken steps to protect the law and fight crime, further stated that he invites law-abiding citizens to join us at this time.
On the occasion of the 156th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Police Department, the Central Provincial Police Day celebration was held today (17) morning at the Kandy Police Stadium under the chairmanship of the Inspector General of Police.
The commemoration, which featured Police Bands, Cavalry, Official Dog, and Special Task Force displays, also presented gifts and monetary awards to police officers who had served with distinction.
A group of people including Mr. Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Diyawadana Nilam of Temple of the Tooth Relic joined the occasion as the special guest and the Central Province Senior DIG Sanjeeva Dharmaratne, Basnayake Nilames of the four great temples, Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Professor M.D. Lamawansa, Kandy Additional District Secretary Utpala Jayaratne joined this event.
