The All Ceylon Small Industries Association says that the prices of all school exercise books have increased by 200%.
Its chairman, Mr. Niruksha Kumara, says that there is a shortage of paper in the country, and the situation is alarming as banks do not provide dollars for issuing letters of credit.
Accordingly, the price of a 120-page exercise book, which was priced at Rs. 120, has now increased up to Rs. 225.
An 80-page exercise book, which was priced at Rs.75, is now priced at Rs.100.
A 40-page exercise book which used to be priced at Rs. 65 is now priced at Rs 180.
Also, the new price of a 40-page CR book, which was Rs. 150, has gone up to Rs. 290.
In addition, the current price of a 40-page Drawing book, which was priced at Rs. 115, has been increased to Rs. 230.
