Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena has been informed that he does not agree with giving the chairmanships of the COPE and COPA committees of the Parliament to the opposition.
The Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Member of Parliament Mr. Sagara Kariyawasam informed this to the Speaker at the party leaders’ meeting of the Parliament held today (1) under the chairmanship of the Speaker.
The Secretary General has said that the Parliament’s standing orders should be followed.
Responding to that, the Speaker said that he would discuss with the President and the Prime Minister and inform the party leaders about this in the future.
