According to the Association of Small and Medium Scale Independent Importers, over 5 million people in Sri Lanka are at risk of losing their jobs due to the government temporarily suspending the import of 305 types of goods.
The president of the association, Prasanna de Silva, said that this situation has arisen due to the temporary suspension of the import of those goods by the government in a hurry without proper study.
In view of the current situation, he also made a request to allow the import of essential goods among the goods that have been suspended under a quota system in order to run their businesses.
