Subjecting to conditions, the government has given permission to import goods including many types of construction materials, floor tiles, electric motorcycles, and bicycles which are currently prohibited to import.
As the Minister of Finance, President Ranil Wickramasinghe has issued the relevant gazette notification and has been granted this permission since yesterday.
The import of electric motorcycles and bicycles is permitted under a licensing system.
Imports are permitted for approved condominium projects, mixed development projects, hotel projects and government projects that are not the board of investment projects.
It is stated in the gazette notice that the related devices should not be imported directly or indirectly for the purpose of resale.
Under the import restrictions imposed due to the dollar crisis, the importation of these into Sri Lanka had been prohibited for two years.
