National Freedom Front leader MP Wimal Weerawansa said today (07) that he has not told anyone that he will join an all-party government.
Mr. Wimal Weerawansa says that the news published so far is not correct, quoting a statement made by President Ranil Wickramasinghe that he would join the all-party government, during a discussion held yesterday with the representatives of the Jathika Samagi Bala Sandhanaya.
Explaining this, Wimal Weerawansa also said:
At this moment when the current economic crisis has developed into a political crisis, we were the first to point out to the country that the most appropriate answer to pass this interval is the establishment of an all-party government. I would like to remind you that we submitted this proposal in writing to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on April 8th and he did not accept it properly.
Also, after the resignation of Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa from the presidency, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe constitutionally assumed the presidency, we pointed out that the integrity that the current regime has not received should be quickly established and for that, we should work urgently to establish an all-party national consensus regime that can win public trust and international trust. Not only that, but we as the National Freedom Front, on July 28, also presented a resolution consisting of 12 proposals to prevent the current economic and political crisis from developing further and to prepare a minimum common national program to alleviate the crisis within a specific time frame. We have presented it to Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe. Also, we have forwarded to the President 10 proposals containing recommendations that should be taken into account in the all-party conference to be called for the preparation of the minimum common national program.
An all-party government is required to implement the minimum common national program with the aforesaid all-party consensus. We will keep an eye on the ‘minimum common national program’ that will be prepared in the future, taking our suggestions into consideration. He said that he would also like to mention that if we join an all-party government to implement it, we will openly inform the public about it.
