It is reported that the Lanka Sathosa Institute has paid a sum of Rs. 5 million and bought a stock of potatoes that are unfit for human consumption.
It is also reported that 30,000 kilos of potatoes imported from Pakistan have been purchased from a private importer and they are currently stored in the Ratmalana warehouse belonging to Ratmalana Sathosa.
Sources of Lanka Sathosa also state that the smuggling has been carried out by wrongly preparing status inspection reports at the request of a high-ranking officer in Lanka Sathosa.
Employees of Lanka Sathosa say that an investigation on this matter has also started.
