Sri Lanka Freedom Party Senior Vice President Professor Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa says that his party will not participate in the election of the successor president.
He mentioned that the future decisions will be taken after looking at the situation in the parliament.
However, a group of members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and a group of members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party have engaged in discussions regarding the election of the successor president.
Political sources revealed that there have been discussions to appoint MP Mahinda Amaraweera as the Prime Minister.
Earlier it was reported that a majority of members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna have agreed to appoint Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the successor president.
Accordingly, a proposal has been made to appoint MP Mahinda Amaraweera for the vacant post of Prime Minister.
