“The progress achieved in the IMF negotiations may be hampered due to the political chaos” – Nandalal Weerasinghe

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says that the current political instability may hinder the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.

Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has stated in a discussion with Reuters that due to this, the progress made so far in the negotiations may be hampered.

He has pointed out that under the current political instability, it will take time to reach an agreement and progress in the negotiations for obtaining credit facilities with the International Monetary Fund.

The Governor of the Central Bank emphasizes that it is essential to establish political stability as soon as possible to avoid financial shortages of fuel, gas, and other essential materials.

He also mentioned that the Reserve Bank of India is negotiating to exchange one billion dollars.

The governor also said that negotiations are underway for another 500 million dollars in loan relief for fuel importation.
