The Railway Department states that the fare for reserved seats will be increased by 30% from the day after tomorrow (1).
General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara said that the fares had to be increased to minimize train losses.
He also stated that although the Railway Department has to spend around Rs. 40 million for fuel daily, the daily income is only around Rs. 15 million.
The General Manager further stated that Rs. 30 million is spent daily for other activities in addition to this.
