IGP to question CID over attack on Galle Face protesters Mr. Wickramaratne has been summoned before the Human Rights Commission.
This is due to a statement made by the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province, Deshabandu Tennakoon, who has been charged with assaulting the protesters, before the Human Rights Commission.
During questioning by the Human Rights Commission, Deshabandu Tennakoon had said that although he had taken steps to prevent the attackers, the IGP and the then Secretary to the Ministry of Public Defense had prevented it. The Human Rights Commission has paid special attention to Mr. Deshabandu Tennakoon’s statement. Sources revealed that Mr. Wickramaratne is to be questioned in this regard.
