The CID has questioned former Minister Johnston Fernando for about 5 hours today.
In connection with the attack on the Galle Face Gota Go Gama site and the protesters on the 9th.
Mr. Johnston Fernando has stated that he had attended a meeting at Temple Trees on the 9th regarding the resignation of the former Prime Minister and had given a political speech there. He has stated that the meeting was organized to give a proper sendoff to the Prime Minister and that there was no any other purpose beyond that.
According to CID sources, Mr. Johnston Fernando has stated that even though a small number of people attended the meeting attacked the protesters in front of Temple Trees and the site, he has no knowledge or involvement in the incident.
Johnston Fernando has taken a video recording of his speech to the CID stating that his speech at the meeting held at Temple Trees had been distorted and publicized by the media including social media. However, the CID did not accept the video as all the videos of the scene at the Temple Trees were received at that time, sources said.
