A group of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs has handed over a letter to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today (19) requesting him to suspend the lunch provided to all parliamentarians and nearly 900 employees in view of the economic difficulties faced by the people of the country.
They also point out in the letter that it is unjust to spend a lot of money to provide lunch to Members of Parliament and employees in the Parliament at a time when the people of the country are in dire straits without being able to take a single meal.
The group has requested the Speaker to provide a packet of rice at market prices only when parliamentary sessions are held throughout the day.
