The CID has arrested two suspects this evening related to the murder of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Polonnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his bodyguard, a police constable.
Police spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the suspects were arrested at Nambandaluwa, Nittambuwa and Junaid Mawatha.
The suspects are residents of Polgahawela and Nambandaluwa and are 22 years old.
According to the CID, one of the suspects is a drug addict. The other suspect was employed at a scrap metal collection point in Nittambuwa.
The CID also found the clothes worn by the two suspects and a knife suspected to have been used at the time of the murder of the Member of Parliament and the security guard on the 9th.
