Ajith Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was elected as the Deputy Speaker.
That is after receiving 31 more votes than the other contestant Rohini Kaviratne from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
Rohini Kaviratne received 78 votes while Ajith Rajapaksa received 109 votes.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated that 23 votes had been wasted.
210 votes were cast to elect the Deputy Speaker today.
