A civilian has been killed after being hit by the jeep of Puttalam District MP Ali Sabri Rahim, who is elected to Parliament from the Muslim National Alliance.
The accident took place last night at Mampuri on the Kalpitiya – Palaviya road.
According to the Norochcholai Police, the accident had taken place due to the careless driving of the jeep driver while carrying the MP towards Palaviya.
A pedestrian was killed in the accident. He is a resident of Puttalam aged 46.
The driver of the jeep in which the MP was traveling has been arrested in connection with the accident.
Norochcholai police say that he will be produced in court today.
