The US Ambassador to Sri Lanka states that Sri Lankans have the right to protest peacefully and that it is essential for democratic expression.
She said this in a special Twitter message regarding the current situation in the country.
She says that she is closely monitoring the situation in the country and hopes that government will bring economic stability and relief to all those affected in the coming days.
Meanwhile, she had a discussion with the Minister of Mass Media and Information Dallas yesterday regarding the media activities in Sri Lanka.
The United States is committed to media freedom and looks forward to continuing to work with Sri Lanka to promote accurate and responsible journalism, the US Embassy in Sri Lanka said.
