External Affairs Minister S. Jayashankar is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka next week for bilateral talks and the BIMSTEC Summit.
This is his first visit to the island after India extended an economic relief package to save Sri Lanka from the current economic crisis.
Apart from India and Sri Lanka, BIMSTEC also includes Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.
The conference is hosted by Sri Lanka as the Chairman of the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) consisting of 7 countries.
