Another 542 schools will be converted into national schools by the end of this year under the 1000 National Schools Program, said the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Prof. Kapila Perera.
The Secretary said that the Ministry of Education has received Rs. 5300 million for the 1000 National Schools Program.
125 Divisional Secretariats without a National School have been identified and National Schools will be established in those Divisional Secretariats, he said.
At present there are 373 national schools in the country and the number of national schools will increase to 1204 with the addition of 830 newly established national schools, he said.
Prof. Kapila Perera said that the new national schools will be provided with the necessary teaching staff, deputy principals, and as well as the necessary infrastructure.
