The water level in the reservoirs associated with the hydropower plants has dropped drastically today.
The Ministry of Power and Energy states that hydropower generation has come down to a minimum.
The water level in Castlereagh Reservoir has dropped by about 13 meters from the overflow level and the generating capacity of the reservoir has been reduced to 16%.
The water level in Maussakelle Reservoir has dropped by about 12 meters and the amount of electricity that can be generated has been reduced to 30%.
The water level of Samanalawewa Reservoir has dropped by 23 meters, Kotmale Reservoir by 24 meters, Victoria Reservoir by 24 meters, and Randenigala Reservoir by 8 meters.
The Ministry of Power and Energy states that hydropower generation is very limited due to the need for drinking water from the Mahaweli reservoirs and the need to give priority to agricultural activities.
