The Central Anti-Corruption Brigade in Walane and the National Drug Regulatory Authority have arrested a retired government doctor in connection with a racket of selling painkillers to drug addicts.
The racket took place inside the doctor’s medical center on Kadane Railway Station Road.
According to information received by the Anti-Corruption Brigade, the raid was carried out this morning (18).
An officer of the Central Anti-Corruption Brigade disguised as a drug addict had gone to the medical center this morning and demanded 10 capsules of the drug giving Rs. 5000. The doctor had given 6 capsules instead of 10 capsules and charged Rs. 4600.
Police and the officers of the National Drug Regulatory Authority (NDRA) raided the scene and arrested the doctor. A subsequent inspection of his medical center turned up 1460 such capsules.
Investigations have shown that the drug is given as an analgesic to cancer patients and patients undergoing serious surgery.
