The Cabinet has approved the appointment of 25 Boards of Inquiry to investigate and conclude investigations into complaints regarding missing persons.
The press release issued by the Cabinet Office in this regard is as follows.
The Office on Missing Persons has been established in accordance with the provisions of Act No. 14 of 2016.
The office has established regional offices in Matara, Mannar, Jaffna, Batticaloa and Kilinochchi and has received 14,988 complaints regarding disappearances.
The Office of the Missing Persons has a major role to play, including issuing reports to relatives of missing persons after conducting formal investigations in accordance with the provisions of the Act.
Accordingly, the proposal made by the Minister of Justice to implement an expeditious program by appointing 25 Boards of Inquiry to investigate and finalize these complaints was approved by the Cabinet.
