The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) states that 120 people have arrested for illegally obtaining electricity for their homes at the Grandpass Sajima Estate.
The raid was carried out this morning with the assistance of the Grandpass Police.
The raid was carried out based on continuous complaints received by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) that the residents of the estate had fraudulently obtained electricity distributed by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for domestic use.
An official of the Grandpass Police stated that a house in this estate caught fire last year due to a leak in an unauthorized power line and many houses were damaged when it spread.
The arrested suspects have been handed over to the Grandpass Police Station and to be produced in court.
