Teachers are ready for another strike

The Ceylon Teachers Union alleges that the daily allowances paid to teachers engaged in GCE Advanced Level examinations have been reduced this year.

Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin said that although in recent years a chief invigilator in examination hall was paid Rs. 2,100 per day and it was reduced upto 1800 this year, Rs. 1800 was paid to an Assistant chief invigilator and it was reduced up to Rs. 1600, Rs. 1600 paid to an hall examiner has been reduced to Rs. 1300.

In addition, an employee on the examination halls was paid Rs. 1100 per day but this year it has been reduced to Rs. 900, he said.

The General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union said that if the allowances paid last year are not paid this year, the upcoming examination duties will be stopped.
