The 43rd Navam procession of the Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple in Colombo was held under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa tonight (16).
The procession was organized under the guidance of Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thero and supervised by the Chief Incumbent of the Gangarama Viharaya, Ven. Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thero.
Anunayake of the Malwatta Chapter Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thero officiated and established the participants in Panchasheela.
The President placed the relics on the inaugural tusker. The procession was colorful with elephants and dance troupes belonging to the Kandyan, low country, and Sabaragamuwa traditions.
The President also inaugurated the newly constructed Golden Fence around the Bo tree, donated the land in front of the temple to the Gangarama Temple with a free grant, and presented bicycles to three Mahouts who had come for the procession.
Members of the Maha Sangha, public representatives, government officials and members of the Temple’s Dayaka Sabha were also present at the occasion.
