    Secretary-General of the world’s largest humanitarian organization meets the PM

    The Secretary-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, Jagan Chapagain and his delegation called on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees this afternoon (08).

    The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the world’s largest humanitarian organization, is present in 192 countries.

    The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross (IFRC) for its humanitarian assistance to the people of Sri Lanka through the Sri Lanka Red Cross in every catastrophic event in history, including the Covid epidemic.

    The Secretary-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (IFRC), Jagan Chapagain, pointed out that the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society is one of the most active and transparent members of the Red Cross Society in the world, giving priority to their demands in future relief efforts and on behalf of the Sri Lankan people. He expressed confidence that more benefits would be provided in the future.

    The Prime Minister emphasized that the Government fully supports the role played by the President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society Jagath Abeysinghe in providing relief to the people.

    Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake, Regional Representative of India to the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Udaya Regmi, President of the Red Cross Society of Sri Lanka Jagath Abeysinghe, Director General Dr. Mahesh Gunasekara, Deputy Director General Anura Lekamge were also present on the occasion.
