Snow storm hits Pakistan – 22 were dead in cars

At least 22 people have died in a snowstorm in northern Pakistan that has left more than 1,000 vehicles stranded on its roads.

They were stuck in their cars due to heavy snow, and many died of hypothermia, police told foreign media.

A large number of tourists have traveled to Murray, a winter resort about 28 miles north of the capital Islamabad.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said tourists were suffering from a ‘food crisis’ after they were stranded with snowstorms and stuck in traffic.

Abdur Rehman, a doctor involved in the rescue operation, told the media that 10 men, two women, and 10 children were found dead after all the stranded tourists were evacuated.

Rashid said the government had called in troops to rescue ‘nearly a thousand’ vehicles that were still stranded.
