State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama says that there will be a slight increase in bus fares from next Wednesday.
He points out that he expects the increase to be as conditional as possible.
Addressing a public meeting the Minister of State said,
“Fuel prices had to be raised reluctantly. By next week bus fares will also have to be revised. This is not something we had done voluntarily. We also hope to increase bus fares by little as possible, keeping in mind the bus owners as well as the passenger. The rule of carrying passengers to the number of seats has not been removed yet. We increase the bus fares on the condition that they will be reduced again on a day when the health sector allows that rule to be removed. “
