The Ministry of Defense says that information on persons still involved in human trafficking has been revealed and steps have been taken to take legal action against them.
The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that it plans to launch a series of active measures in the coming year to curb human trafficking.
The statement further stated that the assistance of the public and all institutions is expected to expedite the awareness development in human trafficking.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force was set up last July to establish a stronger institutional mechanism in direct coordination with investigative authorities and intelligence agencies.
Steps have also been taken to amend the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Act and the Immigration and Emigration Act to prevent trafficking, especially of women and children, in accordance with UN Convention.
