A procession of vehicles carrying Sumana Saman Deva statue, jewels, and relics to the Sri Pada compound has begun from the Galpottawala Sri Pada Viharaya to mark the commencement of the Sri Padasthana pilgrimage season tomorrow.
The Police Media Spokesman’s Office stated that the procession started at 5 this morning.
The motorcade will travel from Pelmadulla to Ratnapura New Town on the Badulla – Ratnapura road and back to the Ratnapura Maha Saman Devalaya on the same road, police said.
Police urge motorists to use the Ratnapura-Colombo main road and use the road from Ratnapura to the Maha Saman Devalaya on the Panadura road for essential purposes only as it may obstruct traffic on that road during the relevant period.
