A fire broke out in the kitchen of a house in the Kandegedara area in Nikaweratiya this afternoon (26), police stated.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that a gas tank leak was the cause of the explosion, Nikaweratiya Police said.
The house was severely damaged in the blast and fire, police said.
No one was at home at the time of the blast, police said.
North Western Province Senior DIG Sanjaya Dharmaratne said that he had informed the Nikaweratiya Police to inform the Analyst about the explosion and the fire.
