Don’t panic, There’s no fuel shortage

Sri Lanka Petroleum Storage Terminal Chairman Mohamed Uwais says that there are stocks of fuel in the country for about a month now and so do not worry unnecessarily about a shortage.

Speaking at a special media briefing held today, the Chairman said that the country is unloading a fuel stock even at this moment and there is no shortage of fuel.

“There is no shortage of fuel, so do not rush around and fill up at petrol stations. I say very responsibly that the country has enough fuel in our warehouses at the moment. We import 36,000 metric tons of petrol and 40,000 metric tons of diesel again on the 19th.

Fuel stations usually buy stocks for a day or two. At the moment there is a slight shortage of fuel until they place an order because of people are stocking fuel. That’s why people are queuing near gas stations. When you sum up the ordered stock of fuel and the fuel in stock, there is a stock for about a month. From Sapugaskanda we distributed about 5 to 10 percent. With the closure of Sapugaskanda, all these distributions will be brought to the Kolonnawa and Muthurajawela terminals for distribution.”
