    Message from DMC to the public

    The Disaster Management Center urges the people living along the low lying areas of rivers and streams to remain vigilant as the sluice gates of the remaining reservoirs will be opened even after the rains subside.

    The sluice gates of the Tabbowa, Rajanganaya, Kala Oya and Deduru Oya reservoirs have been opened since yesterday and the people living in the low lying areas have been informed in advance, said the Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Center, Pradeep Kodippili.

    As the water level in the Udawalawe Reservoir has also risen, the sluice gates are due to be opened today and those on both sides of the Walawe River have been informed about it, said Mr. Pradeep Kodippili.

    The Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Center, Pradeep Kodippili stated that 04 deaths have been reported in the last few days due to the rains.

    He urges the public to be vigilant about lightning strikes. He also appealed to the people to refrain from going down to the reservoirs.
