Minister of Transport Pavithra Wanniarachchi has instructed the officials to further enhance the one day services provided by the Department of Motor Traffic.
The Minister has stated this while participating in the special progress review held at the Department of Motor Traffic.
The Department of Motor Traffic handles 2,000 driving licenses, 1,500 vehicle transfer licenses and 1,200 vehicle registrations services daily.
It is expected to issue more vehicle registrations, assignments and driving licenses in a single day.
At present, the one day driving license issuance service is only available at the Werahera, Hambantota and Anuradhapura offices of the Department of Motor Traffic.
The one day vehicle registration service is available at Narahenpita, Gampaha, Anuradhapura, Hambantota, Kurunegala and Jaffna offices.
Online services are provided only at the Werahera, Hambantota, Anuradhapura, Kalutara, Gampaha, Kandy, Kurunegala and Moneragala offices.
The Minister also instructed to expand the services using the new technology and to facilitate the people to obtain the above services through the branch offices established in all 25 districts island-wide.
The Minister also instructed to implement projects such as the implementation of an e-monitoring system, introduction of courier system for distribution of number plates, integration of services between the Department of Motor Traffic and Transport Medical Institute.
