The Secretary to the Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage, Dr. Priyat Bandu Wickrama states that the Water Supply and Drainage Board has to collect Rs. 842 million from consumers for the water consumption of six months from January to July this year alone.
This is the arrears amount that is to be paid by the consumers for the water consumption.
Although the people did not pay the bill, the water supply was not cut off due to the Covid situation, he said.
However, the Water Supply and Drainage Board has decided to formulate a program to collect the arrears due to the severe financial crisis.
Accordingly, when issuing bills to customers this month, red notices are expected to be issued to customers with outstanding bills, he added.
