The Foreign Ministerial Conference of the United Nations General Assembly will begin tomorrow morning.
Heads of state from a number of countries are already in New York to attend the summit.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and his delegation left for the United States to attend the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday.
On the 18th at noon 2.30 pm local time, the President arrived at the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and was received by the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, Mohan Peiris.
The UN Heads of State Summit kicks off on Tuesday, the 21st with the theme “Building Resilience through hope to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalise the United Nations.”
The President is scheduled to deliver his address on the morning of the second day of the country leaders’ summit.
He is expected to address the Food Systems Conference on the 23rd and the High-Level Dialogue on Energy on the 24th.
During the session, the President will also hold bilateral talks with several heads of state.
External Affairs Minister Prof. GL Peiris Peiris, Chief Adviser to President Lalith Weeratunga, and Foreign Secretary Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage are accompanying the President.
