Recent research has shown that healthy adolescents are more likely to be hospitalized with a rare side effect of its vaccine than Covid disease.
U.S.A. researchers say more and more healthy teens are more likely to be hospitalized because of chest inflammation, a rare side effect of the Pfizer / BioNTech Covid vaccine.
Analysis of their medical data revealed that boys between the ages of 12 and 15 years were 4 to 6 times more likely to develop vaccine-related myocarditis without being diagnosed with the disease than those hospitalized with covid disease within 4 months.
Many children who experience rare side effects experience these symptoms within days of receiving the second dose of the Pfizer / Bioantech vaccine. They point out that children who take Moderna also experience similar side effects.
About 86% of boys suffering from these symptoms need hospital care, they said.
Saul Faust, a professor of immunology and infectious diseases at the University of Southampton, said the findings suggest that the UK Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunizations should further consider cautious approaches to vaccinating adolescents. This is research that has not yet been fully reviewed by Dr. Tracy Heig and colleagues at the University of California. Further research is in progress.
The new findings, which were not recommended by the Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunizations for vaccinating children between the ages of 12 and 15, have been referred to the UK’s chief medical officer, who is expected to make a final decision next week.
Children between the ages of 12 and 15 are eligible for this vaccine, especially if they live with a person who may or may not be at risk for Covid disease.
The latest study analyzes the adverse reactions to Covid vaccines in children aged 12 to 17 during the first six months of 2021.
They estimate the risk of a heart attack after the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine is 162.2 per million for healthy boys between the ages of 12 and 15 and 94 times for healthy boys between the ages of 16 and 17. The equivalent ratio for girls is 13.4 and 13 per million, respectively.
At the current U.S. infection rate, they say, the risk of hospitalizing a healthy teenager with Kovid in the next 120 days is about 44 per million.
