Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda has been released from Charges

The Attorney General has stated before the Colombo High Court today that he does not intend to pursue the charges against former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda, who is accused of abducting and disappearing 11 youths in Colombo and its suburbs between 2008 and 2009.

Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara, who appeared for the Attorney General, had stated this when the case was taken up before a three-judge bench comprising Champa Janaki Rajaratne, Amal Ranaraja and Navaratne Marasinghe.

Senior Attorney Janaka Bandara has stated before the court that a writ petition has been filed in the Court of Appeal against naming Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda who has been named as the 14th defendant in this case.

Accordingly, the Court of Appeal has issued a restraining order preventing the hearing of the charges against him.
