In a significant move to strengthen defence cooperation, Japanese Defence Minister Hon. Nakatani Gen arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday (May 3) for a high-level official visit.
Accompanied by Ambassador Akio Isomata and Vice Minister Kano Koji, he met with Defence Secretary AVM Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) and other top officials at the Defence Ministry in Sri Jayawardanepura on May 4.

The visit focused on enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in maritime security, disaster management, and countering non-state threats.
Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to a stable Indian Ocean region. Minister Nakatani also paid tribute at Kanatte cemetery to honor Japanese nationals who perished during WWII.
