    Mahinda Submitted His Resignation

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that he submitted his resignation letter yesterday (31) as Secretary General of the United People’s Freedom Alliance.

He says that the next thing to do is to act on the case that has been filed before the court.

Former Secretary General Mahinda Amaraweera has filed a petition challenging the appointment of the current Secretary General Thilanga Sumathipala. The case is currently being examined.

Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera is withdrawing his petition and Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala had previously informed the party leader Mr. Maithripala Sirisena in writing that he is also ready to resign from the post of General Secretary.

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera spoke to journalists today about the current situation.

“The party has now been given the opportunity. A new person (general secretary) has been given the opportunity to be appointed. The case is in the future. Leave the case immediately. The letter (resignation letter) was given the day before yesterday. If you give a word, it should be fulfilled. I said I will resign. A new alliance is formed. I think the appointment of a new secretary general was done to him to that alliance. Let’s see who will be appointed. I don’t know who that would be.” The minister commented there.
