    Three Sri Lankans have been Selected to New Zealand’s 2024 New Year Honors List

    Three Sri Lankans have been elected to New Zealand’s 2024 New Year Honorable Mention.

    The list has recently been published by the UK Prime Minister’s Department and Cabinet.

    This recognition is a proof of their outstanding contribution, according to the country’s reports.

    The reports show that it is a symbol of their unwavering commitment to the community and the impact they have made in the Sri Lankan community in New Zealand.

    Below are the three distinguished Sri Lankans who have been selected for the 2024 New Year Honors List.

    Dr. Ann Dolores Pereira:
    Dr. Ann Dolores Pereira, from Oakland, has been recognized for her work in food science, nutrition and community service. A veteran in the field, her dedication to advancing food science and promoting healthy nutritional practices has earned her an appointment as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

    The New Zealand Order of Merit was established by Royal Decree dated 30 May 1996. The fellowship is awarded to “those who, in any field, have rendered immense service to royalty and the nation or have distinguished themselves by their excellence, talent, and contribution.

    Atula Chuda Bandara Wanasinghe:
    Mr. Atula Chuda Bandara Wanasinghe, a Justice of the Peace, has been awarded The Queen’s Service Medal, a prestigious award that speaks well of his unwavering commitment to the Sri Lankan community and his deep involvement in the game of cricket. Mr. Wanasinghe’s commitment to fostering unity in the community and promoting sports has been taken to a higher level.

    Sandoon Kitulagoda:
    Mr. Sandun Kitulagoda, who lives in Wellington, has been honored for his 25 years of service to the Sri Lankan community. Mr. Kitulagoda, who served as the program director of Lakhada Radio and a former president of the United Sri Lanka Union (USLA) Wellington branch, has helped create a sense of community in New Zealand and preserve the Sri Lankan culture in New Zealand.

    This year’s Honors List recognizes the achievements and service of particular celebrities from across the UK.

    It is a confirmation of the unique contribution that these individuals have made not only in their respective fields, but also in making a positive impact in the Sri Lankan community in New Zealand.

    It seeks to honor their recognition that dedication, passion and service can truly change lives and shape communities.
