President Ranil Wickramasinghe said that commissions can be obtained through diesel and coal power plants, but commissions cannot be obtained from energy projects such as solar and wind, so some parties oppose such projects.
The President mentioned that some engineers of the Electricity Board also objected to the project for the development of a 700 MW solar power plant with a 100% battery energy storage system, including the construction of the necessary transmission lines from the Poonakary Lake to the Kilinochchi New Grid Substation, and that such protests also led to the country to become into this situation.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe mentioned this in response to a statement made by Member of Parliament Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake when the expenditure heads of the Ministry of Technology and the Ministry of Investment Promotion were debated in Parliament today (12).
The President also expressed his views on the VAT amendment in Parliament today.
