Schools will have Solar Panels from Next Year

Mr. Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister of Urban Development and Housing, says that a program to install solar panels for schools will be implemented and the pilot project will be started from Minuwangoda Education Division.

The Minister mentioned that this program will be implemented first for the schools with electricity bill of more than 20,000 rupees per month in the Minuwangoda Education Division, while participating in the Minuwangoda Education Structure Committee meeting held recently at the Minuwangoda Regional Education Office.

He said that if the school-based plans are done by the private sector, it will cost a lot of money, so it is difficult for the schools or the regional education office to bear such a large amount of money.

Therefore, he said that the chartered engineers and architects of the Urban Development Authority were contacted for the preparation of plans.

Here, the minister informed the principals that the future development of the schools should be based on these plans.

He also advised to discuss these plans with the School Development Committee, Alumni Association and School Management Committee.

The minister added that the teacher vacancy in the Minuwangoda education division will be completed in the first quarter of next year.

    1. Any new house/apartment block/office complex must be installed with solar panels. A separate loan scheme may be introduced.

    What do you think?
